Arrange a transfer with your hotel or jump in a cab. Check into a hotel in downtown Buffalo, like Hotel Henry, the Marriott Bonvoy, or the Hotel @ the Lafayette and then grab some lunch.
Head out to Niagara Falls to discover the State Park. We suggest an Uber or transfer arranged with your hotel. Jump on board the Maid of the Mist tour by Viator and cruise right to the base of the American Falls, then to the basin of the magnificent Horseshoe Falls. It’s a fantastic journey through the crashing waters, surrounded by massive rock formations that have tamed the raging rapids for millions of years. Enjoy dinner in Niagara. Nothing beats a beer and burger at the Hard Rock Café. Once the sun goes down return to the falls to see them lit up at night. Take an Uber/transfer back to Buffalo.
We love to explore the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, an outstanding centre of modern and contemporary art. The gallery has a 150-year tradition of collecting, conserving and exhibiting the art of its time, giving rise to one of the world’s most extraordinary art collections. The gallery is undergoing a massive renovation and will reopen in 2022. Until the gallery reopens you can still get your art fix with a stroll through picturesque neighbourhoods to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House. The house was constructed in the early 1900s as the home of Darwin and Isabelle Martin. The Martin House really exemplifies Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Prairie House” ideal and ranks as one of his finest residential works.
Check out Allentown for trendy boutiques, art galleries and dining opportunities. Or Elmwood where visitors and locals hang out at open-air cafes and browse farmer’s market vendors on a tree-lined parkway in the summer, or gather in cozy coffeehouses and pubs in the winter. Catch a Broadway show at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, a handsome 1920s venue that was designed like a European opera house or join one of the exciting viator tours to truly see all that Buffalo has to offer.
Buffalo’s legacy as one of America’s most important transportation and industrial centres rose from the impressive waterfront. The neighbourhood of Canalside is the result of over $300 million in new development, hosting over 1,000 annual events.
Lunch at Riverworks
One of Buffalo’s remarkable examples of adaptive reuse, RiverWorks is constructed in the footprint and ruins of the former GLF grain silos, a reminder of Buffalo’s strong industrial heritage. The area is home to a brewery, restaurant, sports, leisure, adventure and entertainment complex. It has become a one-of-a-kind destination along Buffalo’s waterfront featuring fun things to do throughout summer and winter, including ziplining, rock climbing, roller derby, ice skating and curling.
Continue to explore the rest of the State region or head back to NYC. If you have an extra day we recommend visiting magnificent Letchworth Gorge known as the Grand Canyon of the East. Note, you will need a car to get here.
