Whether you’re a Carrie or a Samantha, there are many different ways to be in a New York State of mind. When visiting the Big Apple, choosing from the thousands of museums, landmarks, shopping districts and Broadway shows can be difficult.
So ladies, why not follow in the footsteps of some of our favorite New Yorkers from the big (and small) screens and rediscover their much-loved haunts. A personal travel managers can help you put together your perfect girl’s guide to NYC but to help get you started, here are a few suggestions.
Food and Drink
If you want to dress up and channel your inner Audrey Hepburn, then breakfast at Tiffany’s is a must. In true Holly Golightly form, stop in front of the jewelry line’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue with a pastry and a cup of coffee in hand.
Another great spot is Serendipity 3 at East 60th Street, where the frozen hot chocolate is legendary and you can sit at the Star Table once dined at by Kate Beckinsale. It tends to be busy at this iconic restaurant, so put your name down at the door or make a reservation prior to your visit.
Great Heights
Whether you are looking for your soul mate or travelling with them, there is no better place to become a hopeless romantic than on the top of the Empire State Building. Meg Ryan and Carey Grant once found true love, although sadly not with each other, while looking out across the New York Skyline.
If you’re hoping to avoid crowds, try the Top of the Rock located in Rockefeller Centre, which is home to funny ladies like Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
Fresh Air
It wouldn’t do New York City justice to exclude Central Park from a must-see list. Play dress up à la Blair Waldorf and Serena Van der Woodsen from Gossip Girl and have your own photo shoot in the park. Or pack a picnic and set out a blanket near Bow Bridge located around 72nd street.
Shop Until You Drop
Shop like Carrie Bradshaw along Bleeker Street in the Greenwich Village where you can find everything from Marc Jacobs to gourmet bakeries where the Sex and the City ladies indulged in cupcakes. Also, don’t forget to stop by Carrie’s brownstone apartment located at 64 Perry St.
Night Life
The ultimate way to cap off an action-packed day in New York is to catch a Broadway play in the evening. With hundreds of shows playing at any one time, there is certainly one to suit your tastes. See a show on stages where icons like Idina Menzel (pre-Frozen) and Liza Minnelli have performed.
Of course, in the city that never sleeps, there’s no need to turn in early. Head to the Plaza Hotel where the Moët Champagne Bar and Rose Club stepping back in time to the 1920s and party like Daisy Buchanan in Gatsby era.
