The Swan Valley, located just a short 25 minute drive from Perth, is Western Australia’s oldest wine region. It surrounds the upper reaches of the Swan River. With over 100 wineries and numerous gourmet food producers, one can be spoiled for the choices available. Wine varieties found within the region range from Verdelho, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
One of these wineries which overlooks the beautiful Swan River is Mandoon Estate. Not only does it offer cellar door purchases but also a microbrewery, casual and fine dining options, gourmet deli, beer garden, art gallery and accommodation! Located on Noongar land and in keeping with its indigenous heritage, Mandoon Estate provides visitors a unique opportunity to hear stories of the area as well as learn about local indigenous food and culture as told by Noongar Elder, Dale Tilbrook.
This experience includes tasting some traditional bush food with Dale whilst listening to stories about indigenous farming methods as well as the history of the Noongar people.
A glass of sparkling wine will be waiting for you at the cellar door all the while your wine educator will share the history of Mandoon Estate. Mandoon is derived from the Noongar language meaning ‘a woodland or place of tree thickets’ whereby the Wadjuk had lived and harvested the wealth of this valley for thousands of years.
Duration of this experience is 1 hour and requires a minimum of 2 people for it to operate. Prices start from $79 per person.
