The love of field and coppice
of green and shaded lanes
of ordered woods and gardens
is running in your veins,
Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
The above is an extract from the famous Australian poem by Dorothea McKellar, ‘My Country’. You may remember it more if I said ” I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains”. That is actually part of the second verse of the poem!
I remember learning that poem for year five assembly many many moons ago and I am still mesmerised by the beautiful play of the words evoking all the senses and taking us on a journey around our amazing country.
The vastness of Australia would make it difficult to reach and explore all these little pockets of surprises in a lifetime, though one could try I suppose! Today I want to take you to one of these pockets and that is the Western Australian South West by sharing a short video made available by the Western Australian Tourism office.
Whether you have been many times or maybe never, I have some short itineraries available that will take you on your own exploratory journey of this colourful corner of the state. For more information, you can send me a message via email or call me on 0415 234 685 during office hours.
