I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the new Kimberley package offered by Travel Gateway. This package includes return airfare from Darwin to Kununurra with Nexus Airlines, AWD car hire from Thrifty, and 3 nights accommodation at Freshwater East Kimberley Apartments.
My journey started with a short 75 minute flight with Nexus Airlines, landing in a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Western Australia’s Kimberley region. After picking up my Toyota Rav4 from Thrifty, I did a bit of exploring around the town, visiting the information centre and then grabbing a few supplies at the local Coles. I felt a bit spoilt when I checked into the luxurious Freshwater Apartments, where modern comfort meets the untamed beauty of the Kimberley. These spacious studios and apartments, overlooking the picturesque Lake Kununurra, serve as an ideal base for exploration.
Over the next couple days I met up with some of the local tourism businesses, learning about all the different experiences people can do while visiting Kununurra and surrounding areas. I could easily see how you could fill up four days in this majestic area. From visiting The Grotto, Mirima National Park, or a HeliSpirit helicopter rider over the Bungle Bungle region.
One of my highlights was heading to Lake Argyle to embark on the Magic Sunset Cruise, with Lake Argyle Cruises. I didn’t know what to expect, but was blown away by the shear vastness of the lake. The cruise itself was filled with information and history about the lake, stops along the way for a dip in the water, fish feeding and trying to spot the local wildlife from freshwater crocodiles, fish, wallabies and over 240 species of birds. Finishing off the afternoon with a gorgeous sunset and a glass of bubbles made for a perfect adventure.
Capturing the essence of Kununurra, this escapade promises a perfect blend of luxury, adventure, and natural splendor. Each day unfolds with the promise of new discoveries, leaving you with memories that will linger long after you’ve bid farewell to this remote paradise. I definitely didn’t get to see enough and look forward to my next trip to Kununurra.
