As borders are cautiously re-opening, here in Australia and internationally, things have changed a bit since they were originally slammed shut in March 2020.
There are some differences between rules and regulations, timelines and specifics of different states in Australia, and there are a few new game-rules in this new world of travel. Let’s take a look.

Covid-19 Vaccinations are generally a requirement. Every airline has advice on the current restrictions, and different countries allow travel dependent on different vaccines, proof of recovery, or rules on medical exemptions.
There are requirements for negative Covid-19 tests – different kinds of tests, different pathology reporting requirements and different timelines depending on:
*** Tip – Some tests are required 48 hours prior to departure, some 72 hours prior to departure – we need to get this right or you could be denied boarding on your flight!
*** Tip – The reports for international travel must be paid for privately (cost approx. $150pp), the Australian text message confirmation simply won’t be permitted.
You need to know the latest advice for Australian states and territories and the destinations you are travelling to and through. (This makes a difference as to whether your travel insurance may be valid – or NOT!)
Same as always, it’s generally a requirement that you need to make sure you have at least six months’ validity on your passport, from the scheduled return date of your travels.
*** Tip – What’s Your Name? It’s never been more important to make sure that your name on your passport matches the name on your Medicare Card!
Just like pre-Covid – you may need to pre-apply for a Visa or Electronic System for Travel Authorisation for the country you are visiting.
Tip – Did you know – that Australian’s will need a visa-wavier for travel to Europe, by the end of 2022?
What is it and how do I get one?
This is your one-stop-spot for flight booking details, vaccination certificate, COVID-19 test results
Just like pre-Covid-19, not all travel insurance products are created equal. Be sure to check that your travel insurance includes Covid cover.
*** Tip – In some countries, it’s a requirement to have a minimum level of Covid-19 cover in order to enter.
