“If anyone is looking for ideas for South America, here is a great 5-week itinerary we booked through Natalie:. We know she had traveled to this area previously. Ecuador from Quito to Cuenca (both World Heritage cities) over 7 days through the Valley of the Volcanoes (up to 4,000m) and including Otovalo Markets and crossing the equator twice. Galapagos Island for a week on the good ship “Beluga”, which has a capacity of just 16, which is ideal. Make sure to take the western circuit covering Isabella and Fernandina Islands. we saw everything possible, under water, on land and in the air (except albatross). The Lakes Crossing from Bariloche in Argentina (the Switzerland of the south and famous for its chocolate shops, as well as lakes) to Puerto Montt in Chile. Visiting Antarctica for a week - flying from Punta Arenas in southern Chile to King George Island (in the South Shetland islands), to avoid crossing the Drake Passage by sea. Canadian-based Quark Expeditions were outstanding, not only with the on-shore activities, but also presentations from geologists, whale specialists and historians in the team, who doubled as zodiac drivers and guides. Finally, four days at the new Tierra Patagonia Hotel adjacent to Torres del Paine national park, where everything is included including tours, guides/hiking and very good Chilean wine and food (seafood is a specialty). To wrap up, if this reads like five perfectly inter-connected holidays that worked seamlessly and without a hitch, that is what we experienced.”

The tour was well organised and packed with many adventures including a 20 km trek down to the villages in Sapa for an overnight stay, overnight trains and a junk boat cruise. The highlight for me was staying on the ginger junk boat. The service and food was outstanding. Cruising around Halong Bay was peaceful and beautiful. “Our holiday was fantastic, everything went really well, accommodation was great, the tour company you used was unreal, really good and helpful. The Phi Phi island trip was amazing and the tour company got us to the island before the big crowd of speed boats arrived. WE were travelling away from the crowd which was awesome. The elephant tour was excellent the kids loved it and I enjoyed other parts of the tour like cooking yellow curry, seeing how they get the sap from the sap trees and how they process coconut oil and the lunch on the junk was lovely. My highlight was going to the big Buddha and getting blessed by a Buddhist monk whilst I was there which was very spiritual and moving. All in all a fab holiday, very relaxing, my kiddies just loved it and were really good kids, they travelled well, I am really proud of them. Kids enjoyed the pool, pool bar and slide at the resort which made for a relaxing holiday for me. It’s the most relaxing holiday I have had in years. Thanks again for another great holiday.”
