    Day 1

    Marseille, France

Marseille is France’s oldest city and one of the Mediterranean’s premier ports. Amid the big-city bustle, the old port is a quaint landscape of historic charm.

    Day 2

    Menton, France

Home to either the first or last beach in France, depending on which direction you’re travelling in, Menton is a fabulous blend of French elegance and Italian verve. Its clement year-round climate means that Mediterranean, tropical and sub-tropical plants flourish here, resulting in an abundance of peaceful parks, and gardens that cascade right down to the sea. Add to that the pastel-coloured houses and glorious sandy beaches, and you have one of the prettiest towns on the French Riviera. But Menton is perhaps most famed for its lemons, which are prized by chefs world over. There’s even a festival every February in honour of the fruit, which sees lemon-inspired tributes take over the town. Art lovers should make time to visit the Musée Jean Cocteau, housed within a 17th-century fort, while foodies can browse for specialties in the striking Le Marché des Halles. Stroll through the cobbled streets of the Old Town (be sure to pop into the historic basilica), or simply sit with a coffee or cocktail in a sunny café, overlooking the Mediterranean, and watch the world go by.

    Day 3

    Genoa, Italy

Christopher Columbus hailed from Genoa the Proud, which enjoys one of the longest and most illustrious maritime histories in all of Italy. Even today it is the country’s foremost port, whose five separate bays are alive with shipping. The marvels continue ashore: Genoa has the largest medieval city centre in Europe, and Renaissance palaces that once enthralled Rubens and Van Dyck.

    Day 4

    Livorno (Tuscany), Italy

Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo made their marks of genius here. This cradle of the Renaissance owes its UNESCO status to the overwhelming influence the city and its museums, churches, architecture and artworks have had on Europe and, ultimately, the world. Vestiges of this enlightened period are everywhere today – at the Uffizi gallery, the Palazzos Pitti and Vecchio and throughout the city streets.

    Day 5

    Portoferraio (Elba), Italy

Perhaps most famous for its exiled inhabitant, Napoleon Bonaparte, the island of Elba is a haven for the inquisitive traveller. Situated between the Northern Italian Coast and the French Island of Corsica, Elba’s geographical location, combined with its mild climate, fertile valleys and cliff-fringed coasts, leaves little to be desired. Sweeping views of azure bays and scenic countryside meld with the fascinating history of this island to provide a visit that will not be forgotten.

    Day 6

    Porto Santo Stefano, Italy

Porto Santo Stefano, located on the Tuscan coast of Italy, has a history that dates back to ancient times. The town was originally established by the Etruscans, an ancient civilisation that thrived in the region from around the 9th century BCE to the 1st century BCE. The town’s name is attributed to Saint Stephen, and its history is richly entwined with maritime activities, including its role as a vital port during the Spanish dominion of the region. Despite having a storied past, today it has evolved into a picturesque fishing village, which is both aesthetic and appealing. The historic core features narrow streets, colourful houses, and a lively waterfront adorned with fishing boats. The imposing Spanish Fortress, built in the 17th century, stands as a testament to the town’s strategic importance. Today, Porto Santo Stefano blends its historical charm with a vibrant seaside atmosphere, offering visitors the chance to explore its cultural heritage, indulge in fresh seafood, and relax on its scenic beaches while embracing the essence of Italy’s coastal beauty.

    Day 7

    Olbia, Italy

Olbia shines like a gem on the glorious Sardinian coastline. It’s one of the Italian island’s most picturesque seaside towns – think cobblestone piazzas, local markets, and 18th-century churches, flanked by pastel-coloured buildings and underscored by a cheerful atmosphere wherever you go. The town is often overlooked as visitors head north to the heart-meltingly beautiful Costa Smeralda, Sardinia’s de facto millionaire’s playground. However, unlike some of the Med’s other celeb hotspots, those who venture to the Emerald Coast will be pleasantly surprised by the accessibility to the public beaches – which is the case across the whole island. Olbia’s Mediterranean waters are beautifully clear and home to hidden coves; exploring by boat gives visitors another perspective, not to mention a chance to discover beautiful white sand beaches accessible only from the sea. Sardinia has more sheep than people, so it remains relatively quiet, even during high season. To get away from it all and experience the genuine authenticity of the island, head up into the hills for a change of scene: green-carpeted mountains, flourishing trees laden with fruit and wildflowers as far as the eye can see. Once you’ve feasted your eyes, feast your tastebuds and stop for a spot of local food and wine – Su Porcheddu (roast suckling pig) is one of the island’s specialities, along with Pane Carasau, a wafer-thin light bread and the foundation to any Sardinian meal. Washed down with a glass of local Vermentino and Cannonau wine.

    Day 8

    Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Discover the charming port town of Civitavecchia, the gateway to Rome and the treasures of the Eternal City. Venture through Civitavecchia, noted for its fine seafood and beautiful monuments. Then, travel to Rome, with more than 2,500 years of history and ancient landmarks that will leave you with memories for a lifetime.

    Day 9

    Cagliari (Sardinia), Italy

Cagliari, capital of Sardinia, sprawls across the hills promising awe-inspiring views for those who venture to Monte Urpinu Park. At its heart lies the historic Castello district, where a Roman amphitheatre, medieval towers built by the Pisans, and a 13th-century cathedral with an intricately carved crypt sit beside the monolithic architecture of the Mussolini era. Down by the harbour, the eateries and bars in the Marina buzz with life. In Via Sardegna and Via Cavour, taste local flavours such as the peppery salami mustela, salty pecorino cheese, and carta musica, a wafer-thin flatbread said to sound like music when it snaps. They all go well with a glass of cannonau or vernaccia, the island’s robust wines.

    Day 10

    Tunis, Tunisia

Bathed in the warm waters of the southern Mediterranean, Tunis is a blend of Maghreb flair and French style. Visit the magnificent Az-Zaytunah mosque, the most sacred religious site in the country. Take a dip in the hot baths, built by the Romans. Or experience the sights and sounds of one of the exotic souks (bazaars).

    Day 11

    Day at sea

    Day 12

    Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Palma de Mallorca, rich in monuments of many ages, was founded by the Romans more than 2,000 years ago. A magnificent rose-coloured Gothic cathedral dominates the palm-fringed waterfront of its urban centre. Mallorca, known as the Island of Tranquillity, is the largest and most developed of the Balearic group. Steep mountains, serene valleys and wide plains form its varied landscape. Visit the island’s quaint villages and the monastery where George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent a winter.

    Day 13

    Valencia, Spain

Sunbathe in one of Spain’s most exhilarating cities. Valencia is a vibrant town with dynamic nightlife, outdoor activities and sports, and its mezcla of architectural wonders. In the Old Town, see everything from 15th-century palaces to recent wonders of modern art.

    Day 14

    Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a vibrant city on the northeastern coast of Spain known for its stunning architecture and rich cultural heritage. Barcelona’s seaside beauty, sprawling beaches, eclectic architecture, world-class tapas and Tempranillo are all reasons to fall in love with the city of Gaudí. Indeed, the treasures here are many and diverse, captivating travellers and experts alike. In fact, nine important sites in the city, seven designed by the famed architect himself, have earned the acclaim of UNESCO.

    Day 15

    Cartagena, Spain

Located on the southern coast of Spain, Cartagena invites visitors to discover its rich history, stunning Roman ruins, and picturesque Mediterranean vistas. From its ancient natural harbour where Phoenicians would trade to its Roman Empire heyday when it was known as the New Carthage, Cartagena’s enviable position on the Mediterranean has long made it one of the most important ports in Spain. The country’s Naval Headquarters is here, as are Dockyard Gate and Midshipman School. Discover ancient Roman ruins and Modernista buildings, the magnificent Concepción Castle and a stunning City Hall.

    Day 16

    Malaga (Costa del Sol), Spain

See the wealth of historical treasures found in the coastal city of Màlaga. Once a major trading port, Màlaga has an eclectic mix of sites influenced by the Phoenicians, the Moors, and the Spanish.

    Day 17

    Gibraltar

A British Overseas Territory on the southern tip of Spain, with stunning natural landscapes, historic fortifications, and a lively blend of British and Mediterranean cultures. Climb your way to the top of this legendary limestone mass. With more than 140 caves and soaring to almost 1,400 feet, there’s no question why the Rock of Gibraltar has been a staple in ancient legends.

    Day 18

    Day at sea

    Day 19

    Porto Mahon, Spain

Whether you’re captivated by maritime history, intrigued by cultural heritage, or simply seeking a scenic escape, Porto Mahón has something to offer. Its blend of coastal beauty, historical richness, and Mediterranean charm makes it a delightful and worthwhile destination for those exploring the Balearic Islands. The city’s charm lies in its historical significance, evident in its well-preserved architecture that reflects a mix of Spanish, British, and Mediterranean influences. The 18th-century Fort Marlborough and the impressive Santa Maria Church are just a couple of the many architectural gems to explore, so make sure you pack some comfortable shoes and get exploring on foot. The town’s pretty waterfront promenade invites leisurely strolls, and the bustling harbour showcases everything from traditional fishing boats to luxury yachts, while the city’s relaxed ambiance extends to its local markets, quaint cafés, and tapas bars, where visitors can savour authentic Spanish cuisine.

    Day 20

    Saint Tropez, France

France’s iconic Mediterranean destination, where luxurious yachts, picturesque beaches, and a vibrant nightlife scene can be found. A summer playground for celebrities, artists, and writers vacationing here since the height of its popularity in the 1950s and 60s, St-Tropez’s famous beaches are still frequented by an international clientele who seek a lively nightlife and a piece of the “St-Trop” allure. Magnificent yachts line the port, as owners vie to achieve titles for the biggest, most luxurious, or most enthusiastic crew.

    Day 21

    Marseille, France

Colourful fishing boats sail past the imposing Fort Saint-Jean, narrow streets wander among ancient churches and cobbled squares, while the venerable Basilica overlooks the scene from the hilltop above.
